Stenotaphrum secundatumis naturally found in the West Indies growing in well drained moist organic rich sandy loam with a pH 6.5 - 7.5. It prefers a open sunny to partialy shaded position and is frost and drought tender but salt spray tolerant.
Buffalo turfgrass is grown for its dense cover and year round colour. It is used where fine texture turf is not required as in domestic gardens or seaside plantings and is used in commercial landscapes. It is slow to establish but under good conditions it can withstand heavy wear and stays green through the year. It establishes from sods in one season and requires little maintenance.ID 680
