Lolium perenneis naturally found from North Africa to Asia growing in open grasslands. It prefers a well drained fertile moist soil and grows in a open sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.

Perennial Ryegrass is a quick growing lush grass that is used in domestic gardens as a fast cover or is planted beside roadways and fairways or used in roughs in golf courses. It is also used for erosion control and establishes in one season. It is also used in lawn grass seed mixtures with new varieties having improved properties with a low intensity of culture.ID 677

Note:
Rye grass is an excellent temporary inexpensive lawn but with age the tufted appearance coupled with its dominance over other species makes it less attractive. The leaf blades have tough fibres and when cut they look shredded, then tend to die back from the tips.
