This cycad has a partly underground trunk that is short and cylindrical with radiating foliage that forms a bushy habit. It has olive green leathery divided fronds and produces female and male cones on different plants during summer.

Zamia furfuraceae is naturally found in North America growing in south-eastern Mexico in well drained moderately fertile moist soils in an open sunny to semi shaded position and is drought tolerant but frost tender.
The Cardboard Palm is grown for its spreading foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens in groups along borders or in used in a large rockery. It is also planted in patio pots and planter boxes tolerating neglect. It is slow growing and will establish in 4 to 7 years and is long lived. In cold climates it is grown in a glasshouse as a specimen with low humidity. ID 664
