This large fern has a massive rhizome and forms a woody trunk with a flesh centre and is supported by aerial roots. It has lime green arching divided fronds that are up to 5m (15ft) long and the fertile fronds produce spores during late summer.

Angiopteris evecta is naturally found from Australia to the south-east Asia growing along water courses in the understory of forests.
It prefers a well drained organic rich moist light soil in a protected semi shaded to a sunny humid position and is frost and drought tender.
King Fern primitive hardy fern that is grown for its large fronds and clumping habit. It i planted in large gardens or parks along water courses or used in damp gullies for a tropical effect. It is slow growing and establishes in 3-4 years but is long lived. In cold climates it is grown under glass as a specimen and cn be used in tubs or planter boxes where it needs to be keep moist to avoid wilting. Note:
This is an old genus and has been found in fossils dating back to the Palaeozoic period with little change to its present form.
