Cissus antarctica is naturally found in Australia from southern New South Wales to Queensland growing on the coast and in pockets on the western slopes, appearing in rainforest as an understorey plant.

It prefers well drained organic rich moist soil that is tending acidic in a protected semi shaded to sunny position and is frost and drought tender.

Kangaroo Vine is grown for its spreading or climbing habit and its foliage. It is planted parks and gardens on embankments as a ground cover or trained over a pergola. It is also grown on wire fences as a screen or as an indoor or outdoor container spill-over plant. It is fast growing and has a lush appearance, which helps soften concrete planter boxes around buildings and establishes in 1 to 2 years. In rainforest environments the vine can grow into the tops of trees and form thick stems. ID 649
