Maranta leuconeura is naturally found in tropical America growing in well drained, organic rich light soils in bright indirect light to a shaded protected humid position and is frost and drought tender.

The Red Herringbone Plant is grown for its attractive foliage and spreading habit. It is planted as a small ground cover in a tropical garden. It is also commonly grown as a potted specimen for indoor use and in cold climates it is grown in a glasshouse. It requires constant warmth with high humidity and the leaves will lose their colour in direct light. It establishes in 1-2 years and should be re-potted every 3-years. ID 626
