Calathea pichurata is naturally found in South America growing in Brazil in the understory of forests, commonly along water courses.
It prefers a well drained organic rich moist soil in a semi shaded to bright indirect light wind protected position and is frost and drought tender.
Silver Calathea is grown for its colourful foliage and clumping habit. It is planted in the understory of tropical gardens or grown as a potted indoor plant. It establishes in 2-3 years and in cold climates it is grown under glass or in a conservatory. It is also planted along front borders or used around water features. ID 623
