This perennial sub-shrub has a solitary upright stem that may be branched and forms a bushy habit. It has striped glossy green strap-like leaves and the yellow-white perfumed star-shaped flowers appear in a pendent cluster during autumn.

Dracaena fragrant is naturally found in tropical West Africa growing in well drained fertile, organic rich moist sandy soil in a protected semi shaded to sunny position and is frost and drought tender.

Happy Plant is grown for its foliage and tropical appearance. It is used in small or tropical gardens along borders or as a specimen. When young it is grown as a potted plant for indoors or used in courtyard planter boxes and under cultivation it is smaller attaining a height of 3m (10ft). It establishes in 3-4 years and is moderately long lived. In cold climates it is grown under glass or in a conservatory as a specimen requiring bright light and a humid position for rapid growth.
