This small shrub has mutable stems that form a clump with arching branches that form a bushy habit. It has glossy green divided fern-like leaves and the white pea-like flowers are suffused with pink and appear in a spike from mid to late summer.

Indigofera decora is naturally found from Japan to China growing in well drained, fertile sandy to clay loam that is moist with ample organic matter. It prefers a open sunny position and is frost and drought resistant.

Chinese Indigo is grown for its flowers and spreading habit. It is planted as a low border or used in rockeries and can be trim to form a small hedge. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 3-4 years and is moderately long lived. This shrub is also grown in containers and during winter it may die back to the base then re-shoot again during spring.
