Prunus x domesticais thought to be found naturally from south-west Asia to Europe but is unknown in the wild as it has been cultivated since a 479 BC and its origins have become obscured. Selected varieties are now cultivated throughout the world in 81 countres.

It prefers an opened to protect sunny position and it grows in the well-drained, fertile moist sandy to clay soils with a pH range from 5.5 to 6.5 but will tolerate heavy poorly drained soils. It is frost and slightly drought tolerant and requires a chilling period to produce fruit.

The Plum Tree is grown for their edible fruit, floral display and their foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen for summer shade or used in avenue or street plantings. It is also planted in small gardens for fruit production or cultivated commercially in orchards. It is suitable for coastal and low mountain regions and establishes in 3-5 years and has long lived.
