This tree has an erect greyish trunk with reddish vertical fissures and spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has dark green lanced-shaped leaves and the flowers are followed by an attractive blue-black cone.

is naturally found in Australia growing on the east coast from lower New South Wales to the Queensland border and appear in sub-tropical rainforests.

It prefers a fertile deep alluvial soil and grows in a shaded to sunny position and when mature it tolerates frost and short periods of drought.

Brown Pine is grown for its rounded crown and its colourful fruit. It is planted in parks and gardens as a lawn specimen for shade or used in a rainforest setting. This tree forms a domed crown in an open position but becomes tall and narrow in a closed native rainforests.
