Libertia paniculata is naturally found in Australia from eastern Victoria to the New South Wales and south-eastern Queensland growing on the coast and extending onto the tablelands appearing in rainforest margins. It tolerates most well drained moderately fertile, moist soils and prefers a semi shaded protected position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
The Branching Grass-flag is grown for its flowers and its clumping habit. It is planted along borders in small or native gardens as low filler or used in containers for courtyard settings. It is also planted around water features or used as an understorey plant and the flowers are suitable for floral arrangements. It establishes in one season from division and is moderately long lived.
