This large tree has a shaft like trunk with dark fibrous bark at the base and cream-white spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has glossy green lanced-shaped leaves and the creamy white flowers appear in a cluster from spring to summer.

Eucalyptus pilularisis naturally found in Australia growing on the east coast from southern Bega in New Soputh Wales to the south-eastern Queensland and Fraser Island between the coast and mountains on gently sloping country.

It prefers a well drained deep sandy loam and grows in a protected sunny position and is mildly frost tolerant but drought tender.

Blackbutt is grown for its forest form habit and is planted in large gardens or parks as a lawn specimen for shade or used as a windbreak. It is not commonly cultivated in urban gardens but is the main timber source on the east coast of Australia and is used for lumber and for pulp. It is quick growing and establishes in 3 to 5 years.
