This large tree has an upright straight trunk with smooth creamy white bark and ascending branches that form an open crown. It has dark green lance-shaped leaves and the small, creamy white flowers appear in a cluster during summer.

Eucalyptus saligna is naturally found in Australia from the south coast of New South Wales to southern Queensland growing in forests on the coast and in the lower mountains.

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in deep moderately fertile moist clay based soils and is frost, drought and salt tolerant.

The Sydney Blue Gum is grown for its stately forest form habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen or in group plantings along damp gullies. It is also planted in forests or for river bank binder and establishing in 3 to 5 years and is long lived. It is grown for its timberwhich is used in flooring and constructionand is a koala food tree but is too large for most domestic gardens. ID 488

Care should be taken when selecting a site as this tree is very large with the trunk that is rough, grey- brown at the base, up to 2 m (6ft) wide.
