This large tree has a straight trunk with brown fibrous bark and spreading pendant branches that form an open rounded crown. It has narrow bluish-green lanced-shaped leaves and the small creamy white flowers appear in a cluster during autumn.

It prefers a well to moderately drained deep sandy to clay soil in an open sunny position and is mild drought and moderate frost tolerating.

Narrow Leafed Black Peppermint is grown for its upright spreading crown and is planted in parks and gardens as a shade tree. It is also planted in groups along borders as a wind break establishing in 3 to 5 years. This tree can be used as a street tree or planted in a woodland setting and for attracting native birds.
