This small rhizomatous fern is erect and spreading and forms a dense rounded clump. It has tufted divided fronds with light green segments and the new growth is a delicate pink colour. The fertila fronds appear during summer.

The Rough Maidenhair is grown for its foliage and clumping habit. It is an excellent understorey plant or is grown around a water features for a rainforest effect. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 2-3 years and is planted in tropical gardens.
