This tall fan palm has a tapering trunk with persistent dead fronds that form a skirt under crown. The rounded shiny green fronds are divided into segments and the small cream coloured flowers appear in a pendant cluster followed by brown fruit.

It is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years and requires a minimal space of 3m (10ft) wide. It is also grown in containers when young around pools or in courtyards.
