This feathery palm has a single smooth greyish trunk with upright arching feather-like dark green divided fronds that form a dense rounded crown. The small yellowish flowers appear in a cluster and are followed by orange fruit that may self-sow.

Syagrus romanzoffianumis naturally found in South America growing in low regions from southern Brazil to Paraguay, Uruguay to northern Argentina and is one of the world`s fasters growing palm, up to 600mm (2ft) yearly.

It is found in monsoonal forests or in swampy areas preferring a well to moderately drained organic rich, moist soil and grows in a open sunny position and is frost tender but drought tolerant.

The Queen Palm is used for is foliage and rapid growth. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or in group plantings along borders for a tropical effect. It is also grown around water features or swimming pools tolerating neglect. It is suitable for coastal regions or beach settings establishing in 2 to 3 years and is easily transplanted when large.
