This solitary palm has a upright greyish smooth trunk up to 250 mm in diameter and is slightly swollen at the base. It has feathery fronds form an open to rounded crown with a green to purplish crown shaft. The bluish flowers appear in a cluster in summer.

Archontophoenix cunninghamianais naturally found in Australia growing on the central, east coast of New South Wales and extending into Queensland at an elevation 1200 m (400ft).

It grows in moist to wet sandy to light clay loams that are moderately well drain and can tolerate temporary inundation. It prefers a semi shaded position when young to full sun as it matures with frost, drought and wind protection.

The Bangalow Palm is grown for its graceful habit and is planted in tropical gardens or along water courses. When young it is grown as a container plant and establishes in 2 to 3 years. It is also used in group plantings for a tropical effect and is not commonly grown indoors as it requires ample light and humidity. ID 419
