This feathery palm has a slender ribbed trunk with a crown of graceful divided dull green upward V-shape fronds that form a rounded outline. The small greenish flowers appear on a pendant spike during spring and are followed by clusters of reddish fruit.

Howea belmoreana is naturally found on Lord Howe Island growing on the coast and in the lower mountains to an altitude of 300 m (1,000 ft).
It grows in coral sand or basaltic based soils that are moderately fertile and moist in a semi-shade to sunny open to protected position and is frost and drought tender.
The Belmore Sentry Palm is grown for its slender habit and atractive foliage. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen or in group plantings. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 3 to 7 years and is long lived. It is also planted in tropical gardens for foliage contrast and when young it is commonly used in patio tubs and planter boxes or indoor plant.
