This single trunked large shrub to small tree has upright spreading branches that form a narrow conical crown. It has glossy dark green oval leaves and the white, pink to red saucer-shaped flowers appear from summer to winter.

Camellia sasanquais naturally found from Japan to China growing in woodlands in moist well drained organic rich acidic soils. It prefers a semi shade to sunny position with morning sun protection and is drought and frost tender.

Sasanqua Camellia is grown for its flowers and is planted in shrub borders for screening or used as an understorey plant. It is also grown in containers when young and trimmed to form an informal or formal hedge. It can be espaliered against a wall and establishes in 3 to 5 years. There are many cultivars available producing single and semi-doubles flowers. ID 383
