This deciduous tree has a single trunk with spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has bright green trilobed leaves that turn yellow-orange and then red in autumn and the tiny insignificant small green flowers appear in a cluster during spring.

Acer buergerianumis naturally found from eastern China to Japan growing in deep well drained fertile soils that are tending acid in an open sunny position. It tolerates cold conditions including ice or snow and is moderately drought resistant.

The Chinese Trident Maple is grown for its autumn colour and its rounded crown. It is planted in parks and gardens as a shade or specimen tree or along borders. It is suitable for coastal and low mountain regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and is long lived. It is also grown as a bonsai subject or used as a street tree. ID 319

Normally autumn colour occurs later than other deciduous trees and performs well in warmer climates.
