This deciduous vine has twinning woody stems that form a dense coverage over structures. It has mid-green heart-shaped leaves and the yellow cup-shaped flowers appear in summer followed by a fleshy edible brown fruit that is green inside.

It prefers afertile well drained, but moist organic rich sandy soil with a pH range from 5.0 to 6.5 and dislikes alkaline soils. It grows in an open sunny position with hot wind protection and is drought and frost tender.
