This vigorous vine has slender twining greyish stems that form a dense cover and is larger in tropical areas where it tends to sucker. It has dark green lanced-shaped leaves and the profuse yellow centred white flowers appear in clusters from spring to summer.

Potato Vine is grown for its vigorous climbing habit and its flowers. It is grown on trellis or over wire fences where it can be trimmed as a hedge and is trained over a pergola for shade. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years and is moderately long lived. This plant is also used for wire topiary or grown in pots or tubs and is used as a spill-over above retaining walls.
