Kniphofia uvariais naturally found in South Africa growing along water courses and in grasslands. It prefers a moist but well drained organic rich soil in an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but is mildly drought tender.
The Red Hot Poker is grown for its foliage and its bright flower heads. It is planted in small gardens or rockeries and along borders for colour and foliage contrast. It is suitable for coastal regions tolerating dry conditions and establishes in 3 to 4 years from division. It is also planted in patio pots for a tropical effect and may be used in drifts in large gardens. ID 277
