Viola hybrids are naturally found in Africa growing on the Pyrenees in well drained fertile moist soils in an open sunny position with wind protection and are frost and drought tender.

Pansies are grown for their colourful flowers and are mass planted in bedding displays in parks and public places. They are also grown in small or cottage gardens along borders or in rockeries and used in patio pots, window boxes or hanging baskets. They establish in one season and the flowers are used in floral arrangements. They are moderately deer resistant. ID 272
