Juniperus conferta is naturally found in Japan growing in well drained fertile moist sandy to light clay soils in an open sunny position and tolerates mild drought and frost.

The Shore Juniper is grown for its spreading habit and is planted in parks and gardens as a ground cover or used as a spill-over along with top of retaining walls or on embankments. It has a vigorous growth rate and spreads up to 2 m (6 ft) in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for coastal or inland regions. It is also grown in containers or used on roof gardens requiring little care once established. ID 236
