Juniperus chinensis is naturally found from China to Japan growing in deep well drained fertile moist soils that are tending alkaline in an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Chinese Juniper is used for screen planting or hedging and as a windbreak. It is also grown in formal gardens as a specimen and there are many cultivars with varying growth habits. It is slow growing and long lived taking 10 years to establish tolerating cold conditions and the timber is also used widely.ID 219
