Lavandula dentata is naturally found in southern Europe growing in medows. It grows in well-drained, drier soils that are neutral tending alkaline with a pH range from 6.5 to 8.5 and prefers an open sunny position. It is frost and drought tender but salt tolerant and dislikes wet conditions.

French Lavender is grown for its attractive scented foliage and flowers. It is used as a quick low hedge or mass planting in parks and large gardens. It is also used as a specimen in cottage or fragrant gardens and herb gardens. When the foliage is dried it is used in potpourri and it is grown commercially for its oil. It establishes in one season preferring to be kept moist. ID 166
