Chaenomeles speciosais naturally found from China to Japan growing in an open sunny to semi shaded position in well drained moist fertile soils with a neutral pH and is drought and frost tolerant once established.

The Japanese Flowering Quince is grown for its flowers and bushy habit. It is used for hedge or in mixed shrub borders and as a specimen. It is also used in winter colour, barrier plant, topiary and as espalier and the flowers are used in floral arrangements. Take care as the stem has 5 mm long spines and the plant produces fewer flowers in full sun. ID 150
