This vigorous twinning vine has tendrils and tuberous roots and forms a dense cover. It has bright green arrow-shaped leaves and the rose colour bell-shaped flowers appear in a cluster from summer to autumn and the vine normally dies back during winter.

Antigonon leptopus is naturally found from Central America to Mexico in North America. It grows in most well drained, moderately fertile moist sandy to light clay loams that are tending acidic with a pH range from 5.0 to 6.5 and prefers an open sunny position and is frost and drought tender.
The Coral Vine is fast growing and is planted for its flowers and quick coverage. It is trained over wire fences or on trellis for screening and to attract birds and butterflies. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years and is long lived. This plant is also grown in pots or planter boxes and used as a spill-over above retaining walls.
