This tropical tree has an upright greyish trunk with ascending branches that form a narrow rounded crown. It has glossy green lobed leaves and the red tube-shape flowers appear in a wheel-shaped cluster during late summer.

is naturally found in Australia from tropical Queensland to northern New South Wales growing on the coast. It prefers a well drained organic rich moist soil in an open to protected sunny position and is moderately frost and drought tolerant.

The Queensland Firewheel Tree is grown for its unusual red flowers and attractive foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or used in a rainforest setting. It is suitable for coastal regions establishing in 3-4 years and is slow growing but long lived. This tree may also be used for street plantings or along borders as a tall screen. ID 125
