This perennial shrub has erect spreading branches that form an open rounded habit. It has dark green elliptical leaves that turn bronze during autumn before falling and the blue trumpet-shaped flowers appear in a cluster from summer to winter.

Ceratostigma willmottianum is naturally found from western China to Tibet growing along forest margins in warm locations or in thickets at an altitude from 700 m (2,296 ft) to 3,000 m (9,842 ft).
It prefers a moistto dry well drained moderately fertilelight sandy soil to a medium loam and is pH adaptable. It grows inan open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought and shade tender.
Chinese Plumbago is grown for its blue flowers and its low bushy habit and exhibits excellent autumn colour. It is planted in sunny rockeries or along borders as a filler plant or can be trimmed as a low hedge. it is used in cottage gardens or grown in pots and tubs requiring little care.
