Angophora costata is naturally found in Australia growing along the east coast and adjoining hill sides of New South Wales. It prefers a well drained, moderately fertile sandy loam in an open sunny position and is tolerant of drought and salt spray but frost tender.
The Sydney Red Gum is grown for its majestic habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen for shade or used in bush regeneration programs amongst rock out crops. It establishes from seed in 2 to 3 years growing quickly at first and is long lived. This tree is also used in roadside plantings attracting birds. ID 74
Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a site as it may drop branches and the roots can clog drains.
