This deciduous shrub has an erect stem with spreading slender stems that form a dense rounded habit. The dark green oval leaves turn purplish during autumn and the fragrant trumpet-shaped pinkish-white flowers appear in a cluster during early spring.

Viburnum carlesiiis naturally found in Korea and Tsushima Island growing on the coast and in the lower mountains along forest margins and in thickets. It grows in most well drained fertile moist sandy to clay soils that are tending acidic and prefers an open sunny to a partly shaded position and is frost tolerant but wind and drought tender.

The Korean Viburnum is grown for its fragrant flowers and its dense bushy habit. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or trimmed to form an informal hedge. It is also mass planted along borders for screening and when young it can be grown in tubs or planter boxes. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for coastal or inland positions and is excellent for fragrant gardens. ID 68
