Plumeria acutifolia is naturally found from southern Mexico to Central America growing on hill sides.

It prefers a very well drained moderately fertile to poor sandy-stony soil that is tending acidic and grows in an open sunny wind protected position tolerating hot conditions. It is drought resistant but is frost tender and dislikes wet soils.

Frangipani is grown for its fragrant flowers and lush foliage. It is planted in small gardens along borders or next buildings as a specimen and for shade. It is also planted in fragrant gardens or used for a tropical effect. It can also be grown in pots and tubs and in cold regions it is cultivated in a well-lit glasshouse or conservatory. It establishes in 5 to 7 years and dislikes pruning. ID 58
