This shrub has graceful arching stems that form a rounded habit. It has dark green elliptical leaves and the whitish flowers appear in a cluster during spring and are followed by yellow berries that persist until winter.

Cotoneaster franchetii is naturally found in western China growing on open rocky hillsides in mountainous regions in thickets at an altitude from 1,600 m (5,249 ft) to 2,800 m (9,186 ft).
It prefers a well drained sandy-stony to light clay soil that is tending acidic in an open to expose sunny to semi shaded position. It is frost and drought resistant.
This reliable Cotoneaster is grown for its dense bushy habit. It is planted in parks and gardens along borders for screening and may be trim to form a hedge. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 3-5 years and is moderately long lived. It may also be espaliered against a wall and the foliage may be cut and used in floral arrangements. ID 38
