This twiggy low shrub forms a prostrate or compact rounded habit. The small elliptical leaves are grey-green and the tiny saucer-shape flowers appear during late spring followed by crimson berries that persist from autumn to winter.

Cotoneaster conspicuusis naturally found from Tibet to western China growing in sunny river valleys commonly amongst rocks at an altitude from 2,200 m (7,217 ft) to 3,000 m (9,842 ft).
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile moist sandy-stony to clay loam that is tending acidic and grows in an open to exposed sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.
The Wintergreen Cotoneaster is grown for its showy berries and foliage colour. It is planted in parks and gardens along borders for screening or is trimmed to form a hedge. It is also planted in tubs or planter boxes and is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 3 to 5 years. ID 37
