This clump forming perennial has spreading stolons with fibrous roots and upright foliage that forms a bushy habit. It has divided leaves with dark green leaflets and pink to mauve; saucer-shaped flowers appear in a cluster during late summer.

Anemone hupehensis is naturally found in central China growing on grassy slopes or along water courses in hilly regions at an altitude from 400 m (1,312 ft) to 2,600m (8,530 ft).
It grows in a well drained humus rich evenly moist sandy to light clay soil with a pH range from 6.0 to 7.5. It prefers an open to wind protected semi-shaded to sunnyposition and is frost resistant but drought tender.
The Japanese Wind Floweris grown for its flowers and its bushy clumping habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along perennial borders or mass planted for bedding displays in parks or large gardens. It is also planted in patio pots and planter boxes and the flowers are used in floral arrangements.Itis suitable for coastal or inland regions and establishes in 2 to 3 years and is commonly seen in Japanese gardens. Note:
Once established, it should be kept moist and an application of complete fertiliser during late winter will encourage abundant flowering.
