Anemone coronaria is naturally found in the Mediterranean region growing in the foothills of mountains on rocky hillsides and along roadsides in disturbed soil and in scrubland from sea level to an altitude of 900 m (2,952 ft).
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile sandy-stony limestone based soil with a pH range from 7.5 to 8.5 and grows in an open sunny position and is frost and drought tender.
The Poppy Flowered Anemone is grown for its flowers and is mass planted for bedding displays in parks and large gardens or used along perennial borders in small gardens. It is also grown in pots or tubs and is suitable for coastal or inland regions. It establishes in 1year and is commonly used as a cut flower. There are many cultivars available in single or doubles with a variety of colours.ID 30
