This herbaceous tuberous perennial forms a rosette of finely lobed dark green leaves. The cup-shape flowers are white, red and pink, appearing above the foliage from winter to early spring.
Ranunculus asiaticus is naturally found from south-west Europe to Asia growing in grasslands and in the foothills on rocky slopes from seal level to an altitude of 900 m (2,952 ft).
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile organic rich moist sandy-stony soil with a pH range from 6.0 to 6.9 and grows in an open sunny position. It is frost tolerant but drought tender and requires wind protection.
Turban Ranunculus are grown for their flowers and are planted along borders in small or cottage gardens or mass planted for bedding displays in parks or large gardens. The flowers are also used in floral arrangements and the plant establishes in one season from division. Ranunculus is also grown in patio pots or window boxes for colour. ID 29
Note:
In warm regions discard after three years and plant new stock, which will establish quickly or in cold regions it is grown as an annual.
