Streptosolen jamesonii is naturally found in South America from Columbia to Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador growing in open woodlands and on rocky slopes.
It prefers well drained humus rich moist sandy to light clay soil with a pH range from 5.5 to 6.5 and grows in an open to protected sunny to semi shaded position. It is slightly drought tolerant but frost tender and prefers wind protection.
Browallia is grown for its colourful flowers and upright bushy habit. It is planted along garden borders for colour or used for a tropical effect. It is also grown above retaining walls as a spill-over or used in tubs or planter boxes and the flowers are cut for floral arrangements. It establishes in 2-3 years but becomes untidy when neglected requiring a light prune after flowering. ID 28
