This decidious tree has a short tapering trunk with slendar spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has glossy green lobed leaves that turn golden colour during autumn and produces catkins during spring.

Populus alba is naturally found from central Europe to Asia growing in woodlands and along rivers. It prefers a well drained, fertile moist to dry sandy to heavy clay loam with a pH range from 4.9 to 7.0 and grows in an open sunny position and is frost and drought resistant.
The Silver Poplar is a large tree that is grown for its habit and its attractive foliage. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen for shade or as a windbreak along boundaries. It is also planted along rivers for bank binding. It is suitable for inland and cold mountainous regions and establishes in 3 to 5 and is moderately long lived. ID 16
