This small rounded shrub has erect stiff stems that become brown with age. The bright green narrow leaves are arranged sparsely down the stems and the deep yellow ball-shaped flowers appear during early spring.

It prefers a very well drained poor to moderately fertile sandy-rocky light soil that is tending acidic and grows in an open to exposed sunny position and is drought and light frost tolerant.

The Thorn Wattle is grown for its bushy habit and its bright flowers. It is planted in along low borders or in open sunny rockeries as a specimen and is ideal for new gardens. It creates an excellent bird haven and can be grown in large tubs or planter boxes. It establishes in 1 to 2 years and is ideal for arid gardens tolerating hot dry conditions. ID 6
