subsp. effusus
This prostrate shrub grows to 250 mm (9µ in) tall by 3 m (10 ft) wide and forms a dense cover. From early to mid-spring it produces large clusters of pale coral pink tubulate flowers that contrast with the bright green spiky foliage.

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in very well drained, poor sandy soils and is frost, high temperature and light frost tolerant. It is listed as rare and critically endangered in its native habitat and is under threat from fragmentation, salinity and waterlogging, disease, weeds, fire and grazing.
It grows in USDA zones 9-10.
