Cultivars
'Adirondack'
This plant was selected from over 500 seedlings that were infected with fireblight and shows resistance to scab cedar apple rust and powdery mildew. It has a median growth rate attaining a high of 5m (16 ft) in 20 years with upright branching, forming a narrow rounded crown with a dark green leathery leaves.
It produces dark carmine buds that open to waxy white, slightly fragrant flowers that are tinged with red. They appear during spring and followed by abundant bright orange, persisted fruit that is up to 12mm (½ in) in diameter.
It is planted in formal gardens as a specimen or is use along a shrub borders in parks and gardens tolerating most soil types that are tending acidic. It grows in USDA zones 4-8.
'Parkmannii'
This deciduous shrub is a medium growth rate grows up to 6m (18 ft) tall with many ascending branches forming a vase habit with dark green foliage. During late spring it produces double shell pink flowers up to 7 mm (¥ in) white in dense clusters along the stems followed by persistent dull red fruit.
This very attractive flowering shrub to small tree is planted in parks and gardens along avenues or as a focal point in a small garden. It prefers an open sunny position and grows on most well-drained fertile moist soils in USDA zones 4-8.
'Pendula'
This deciduous shrub has a medium growth rate and grows to 3m (10 ft) tall with pendulous branches. During spring it produces a double pink pendant flowers and is commonly grown as a specimen in parks or Japanese gardens.
It prefers a well-drained fertile moist soil that is tending acidic in an open sunny position. It grows in USDA zones 4-8.
