Note
Rhododendron kaempferi is one of the parents of the Kurume hybrids.

The Kaempfer hybrids resulted from crossing Rhododendron kaempferix Rhododendron'Malvatica' x Rhododendron 'Maxwelli' and generally have a glossy lanceolate to ovate leaves up to 50 mm (2 in) long and produce 2-4 showy funnelform flowers in clusters during mid-spring.

They prefer an open sunny to partially shaded position and grow in organic rich moist soils that are acidic with a pH 4.5-6.
