This tree is similar to the species growing to 10m (30 ft) tall with a larger dark green leaves that are less lobed and produces white bell-shaped flowers up to 28 mm (1? in) diameter, during mid-spring.
It is naturally found in the hillsides of Korea and Japan growing at an open sunny position in moist but well-drained fertile soils commonly associated with water courses. It grows in USDA zones 4-8.
var.zumi Calocarpa Flowering Crabapple
This small deciduous tree grows to 8m (25 ft) tall and wide with dark green foliage and produces single deep red buds that open to pinkish white fragrant flowers during mid-spring. The bright red fruit is persistent on the plant during winter and it grows in an open sunny position in well-drained moist organic rich soils in USDA zones 4-8.

This tree is upright with a spreading crown and when mature it is up to 9m (28 ft) tall by 15m (46 ft) wide with dark green foliage. It produces purplish-red buds that open to greenish-white double flowers with up to 15 petals and is 38 mm (1½ in) wide, and appear during mid-spring. It prefers an open sunny position and grows on most well-drained fertile moist soils with a pH 5.5-7.5.
