This perennial is upright and spreading with pale green soft stems to 1.5 m (5ft) tall and wide. During spring it produces masses of yellow flowers and bracts covering the dense irregular rounded a crown.
Cultivars
'Walenburgs Glorie'
This bushy perennial grows to 900mm (3 ft) tall by 300 mm (1 ft) wide with mid-green foliage that turns yellow during autumn and produces sulphur yellow flowers from mid spring to early summer. During autumn pinkish stems become bare and the plant grows in moist moderately fertile soil but will tolerate drier conditions.
'Zauberflote'
This hardy annual-bi-annual grows to 400 mm tall by 450 mm wide with upright foliage that forms a clump. It has bright green foliage that turns orange red during autumn and in late spring it produces long-lasting yellowish flowers. They propose an open sunny position but will tolerate some shade and grows in well-drained moist moderately fertile clay loams.
