Alpine Balsam
This small perennial grows to 15 mm (? in) tall by 200 mm (7µ in) wide forming a low cushion-like habit. It produces racemes of starry purple flowers above the foliage from late spring to summer. It prefers a semi-shaded to sunny open position and grows in well-drained sandy to light clay soils and is pH adaptable. It is planted in alpine or rock gardens will use edging cottage gardens requiring little care once established. It grows in USDA zones 4-9.
